Originally the Miners Brewery, Westcoast Brewing is located in Westport on the West Coast of the New Zealand South Island.

This is the home of naturally brewed beers — beers that are hand crafted with natural ingredients. We use no chemicals, no additives and no added sugars so our beers won't knock your body around.

The traditional art of brewing is on the endangered skills list, threatened by today's fashion of accelerating the brewing process to produce more beer, faster. At the West Coast Brewery we take our time, ensuring that the age old, slow brewing process won't be lost to mediocrity.

We make beer to be enjoyed, beer that is refreshingly natural. It's what you come to expect on the West Coast, where the sky is deep blue and the sand is jet black — our beer is pure gold.

Our West Coast range are big beers. No one can claim a thirst like a West Coaster, these are rugged folk from the last frontier — huntin', fishin' and shootin' — big men, big days, big thirst. We like to think that each of these beers tells its own tale through the antics of the original legends and larrikins.

West Coast Premium Range

Green Fern Certified Organic Lager 5%
Super Premium Lager
Green Fern is an international style lager with a good healthy golden colour and pronounced malty hoppy tones on the nose. A clean crisp taste with hints of honeyed sweetness and plenty of mid to back bitterness. It’s a refreshing palate cleanser that will compliment a meal without overpowering the taste buds. At 5.0 Alc/Vol., Green Fern offers full-bodied flavour that won’t wimp out in the finish.

West Coast International Pale Ale 5%
Did someone say hops??
First we took English pale & crystal malts then added layers of Nelson Sauvin and NZ Cascade hops right through the boil, hop back and as the first dry hop in the fermenter. That is where the fruity American ale yeast worked its magic. Then it was off to cold conditioning for a couple of week where it was sampled by the brewers (numerous times) before they decided on the formula for the dry hops in the bright beer tank! There you have it: by combining the finest English malt, American yeast and inspiration with the best Kiwi hops and ingenuity we created Our International Pale Ale.

West Coast Stout 6%
Big Dark & Mysterious
Coffee, caramel, and chocolate flavors abound in this black beauty. Brewed with roasted malt and malted oats (instead of rolled oats), this beer has a delicate character and a rare flavor complexity It has a deep, dark, mysterious color. Flavors of espresso coffee and chocolate dominate yet a subtle smoky character persists in the background. (There is no coffee or chocolate in there, it’s just the roasted barley.) velvet-rich, creamy descendent of the great Irish stouts. A real treat for those who crave the dark side of brewing.

West Coast Marzen 6.6%
Brewed Strong and long
We’ve Recreated our version of this iconic style. Starting with the finest Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts, Boiled with the best New Zealand grown German Hops and a true Bavarian lager yeast for a long slow cold task of fermenting the rich ruby red liquid for a full on malt assault of your pallet. It comes into its own with extended lagering in our ice cave (OK it’s a cool room) where the flavours slowly meld together over six months. Its can only be described in one word: DELICIOUS.

West Coast Draught 4%
The New Zealand Classic
A rich malt body with mild hop characteristic.Using generous amounts of Canterbury malts and Nelson Hops gives this classic kiwi drop a truly Mainland taste. With a subtle nose of Caramel, Malt & Butterscotch. this 4% kiwi favorite is a great session beer.

West Coast Black 4%
Roasted malt Goodness
Rich and full flavored with up-front boldness of fresh Roasted Coffee and dark Chocolate it has a crisp yet subtle hop finish We blend together a truckload of roasted and crystal malts to give this beer a unique flavour profile.
